Register and protect your film title with the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC). Review the rules of procedure below, then complete the registration form.
The following rules of procedure governing registration of titles with the Council have been formulated by the Committee of the Council. The success of this Scheme depends on the wholehearted co-operation of producer members, as in the event of any violation of the rules, the Committee of the Council does not have the necessary sanction or authority to prevent the duplication of titles. The Committee will, however, use its good offices and influence to dissuade the members concerned from duplicating titles.
If the members concerned act in defiance of the Committee's directives, the Committee may have to take disciplinary action as per the rules of the Council against the members concerned.
The Office of the Council shall open and keep a Register of Titles for registration of titles of motion pictures.
Any producer of a Tamil Picture who is a member of the Council may avail himself of the facility of getting the title of his respective picture proposed to be produced or under production registered in the Register of Titles referred to above by sending an application to the Council in the form available at the office of the Council with the fee for registration as prescribed hereunder.
The registration fee will be Rs. 1300/- per title per film. Any producer can register up to a maximum of TWO titles. The renewal fee will be Rs. 2360/- per title.
Moreover, I agree to give the materials of the trailer, songs, clippings and comedy scenes of the films which are produced under our banner and to telecast them through Cable TV, Internet, Satellite Channels, Surface, IPRS, etc., only through our Tamil Film Producers Council.
Subject to the provisions of Rule 5 below, the validity of titles registered will be for ONE YEAR from the date of registration. If production work has commenced during the year, evidenced by a certificate from the concerned Laboratory for having processed the negative, the title should be renewed automatically at the end of the year on payment of a renewal fee of Rs. 2360/- per title, until completion and release of the film.
If the production work has not commenced during the year, renewal for another six months only will be considered by the Title Registration Committee on production of satisfactory reasons for the delay in starting the production. No renewal will be permitted thereafter.
Notwithstanding the provisions contained in any other rule, the period of validity of registration or renewal of registration for a title will expire automatically with effect from the date of expiry of membership unless membership is renewed in time.
Application for renewal should be submitted so as to reach the Council office before the expiry of the validity period. A title for which no application for renewal is received within the validity period will be treated as free for registration by other members.
The Council shall register the title as per application on being satisfied that there is no prior registration of the same title. If there is prior registration of the same or similar title, the registration will be refused and the fee received with the application will be refunded.
The decision of the Committee shall be final and cannot be called into question. Registration of title shall take effect from the date of sanction of registration by the concerned Committee of the Council.
It is not obligatory on the part of the Council to inform the producer as to when the period of registration of his title expires. As a matter of service courtesy, however, every member will be intimated in writing one month before the expiry of the first registration through a letter under certificate of posting. It is the producer's own responsibility to apply for renewal of his title in time, before the date of expiry, if he so desires.
Regarding titles of mythological films, which are sometimes identical, whichever title is received first, with its date and time noted, would be given preference.
All titles for registration which are disputed or which may sound as duplicating already registered titles will be considered by the Title Registration Committee of the Council.
In registering any title, the Council takes no responsibility whatsoever in regard to any claims by any person on the ground of infringement by the Title Registration Committee of the Council.
Every producer shall give a declaration that he will abide by the decision of the Executive Committee of the Council based on these rules.
Applications for registration of titles from new applicants, if they are not already members of the Council, will be considered only after their application for membership is considered and they are admitted as members of the Council by the Executive Committee.
Applicants are not entitled to use the title applied for by them in their publicity, advertisements, news items, etc., until the Council confirms in writing that the title applied for has been registered in their favour.
These rules are governed by the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) and are subject to revision by the Executive Committee.
